HEURIS and Cohen Communications Demonstrate New Digital Dailies Technology at Directors Guild Theater New Digital Dailies process shown at screening of "The Mothman Prophesies" saves money, saves time and offers greater artistic control. Los Angeles, CA, February 1, 2002A recent screening of "The Mothman Prophecies" at the Directors Guild Theater in Los Angeles also served as the public debut of a new method for handling dailies. This method displays dailies in High Definition digital formats rather than the traditional film or low-resolution video. Because film positives or prints are not required, the digital dailies process offers significant time and cost savingsan average of over $300,000 in film stock costs alone. Yet it offers a high-resolution image similar to filmallowing directors, producers and actors to clearly assess the days shoot. At a question and answer session, held after the screening at the Directors Guild Theater, Steven Cohen, Digital Cinema Consultant, described how a digital dailies system was used during the creation of the "Mothman Prophesies." A panel of professionals involved of the creation of "The Mothman Prophesies" including Director--Mark Pellington , Editor--Brian Berdan, Sound DesignerClaude Letessier, First Assistant EditorDavid Reale and Steven B. Cohen--CEO, Cohen Communications raved about their experience with the new digital dailies process. "Ill never go back to doing it [dailies] the old way again," stated Mark Pellington, Director of "Mothman Prophecies." "I just loved it," he said. In addition, Steven Cohen, Digital Consultant and Brian Quandt, President of HEURIS Logic demonstrated a prototype of the next generation in digital dailies. This new version of the digital dailies technology promises to make digital dailies accessible to a wider audience of film and video professionals. "HEURIS new technology is an important step forward in the movie making process," said HEURIS President, Brian Quandt. "Lower costs means that digital dailies are accessible to a wider audience including producers, directors and actors. Higher resolution means that everybody can see all the picky details from makeup and hairdressing, to set dressing to camera angles and lighting. Ultimately this results in finer artistic control over the movie making process and better movies."
