HEURIS and EVS Move Digital Cinema From All Show to All Go

HEURIS and EVS team up to ship a comprehensive digital cinema solution.

Los Angeles, CA, March 13, 2002—Sharing a vision for bringing digital cinema from concept to reality, film and video experts HEURIS and EVS have entered a major licensing agreement that will integrate HEURIS’ new MPEG Power Professional—D Cinema™ software into EVS’Alfa Digital Cinema Server. This new product offers a cost-effective D Cinema encoding solution.

Aimed at studios, distribution and theaters, the integration of HEURIS’ powerful technology with EVS’ CineStore line of servers provides a complete end to end Digital Cinema solution. The integration of each respective product will make D Cinema more accessible and clearly sets a trend in the evolution of D Cinema.

"EVS is thrilled that a company with the strength and reputation of HEURIS shares our vision for Digital Cinema," said EVS Product Manager Jean-Francois Nivart. "By developing this unique relationship, HEURIS and EVS have ensured that Digital Cinema moves beyond mere technology."

"I am pleased to be working with EVS to ensure that the quality and integrity of the artist is of top priority," states HEURIS President Brian Quandt. "It is clear that EVS shares this same vision in a Digital Cinema delivery format. This business deal shows that D Cinema is not only technically feasible, but also a business and financial reality."

Technically speaking, the new product combines HEURIS’ MPEG Power Professional--D Cinema with the EVS CineStore Alfa Server. The MPEG Power Professional—D Cinema software is versatile allowing for quick changes on the fly and in the field (for authoring and preparation of content for delivery). Features include high video bit rate settings, splicing capabilities with no dangling partial frames, user assignable video time code, user specific quantization tables and Cineon input media.

The EVS CineStore digital server is a computer capable of a huge storage capacity on hard drives, based on existing components and standards. Utilizing the standard MPEG 2 signal compression algorithm, the server memorizes and manages sounds and images. The CineStore solution is a new smart Digital Cinema Server system answering to all predictable needs of the Digital Cinema Industry for encoding, distributing and playing-back digital movies: perfect image quality, image stream control, high flexibility, single screen and multiplex, security, rights management, multiple languages, huge storage capacity, satellite-cable-data tape compatibility, interoperability and cost effective systems.
