January 29, 2001, Tokyo, Japan: HEURIS, makers of the most widely used MPEG encoding software, MPEG Power Professional® today announced that it’s new DVD ConnexIT software will be bundled with copies of Ulead’s top-selling video editing software package, Video Studio 4.0. This software is slated to be bundled in turn, with Hitachi’s DVD CAM, DVD-RAM camera. The camera, recently highlighted in Wired magazine, is the first to record directly to DVD discs. HEURIS, Ulead and Hitachi recently demonstrated this new product at the CEATECH show held last October in Tokyo, Japan. HEURIS’ DVD ConnexIT is a revolutionary new software product that allows customers to use their favorite video editing software to read, manipulate and write video in rewritable DVD formats. These rewritable DVD formats are a critical component of the next generation of DVD technology, and are covered in the RTRW section of the DVD specification. This specification has been implemented in multiple product formats including DVD-RAM, VRF, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW. HEURIS’ DVD ConnexIT is a software plug-in or "application driver" that allows users to read, manipulate and record data in all of these formats. Ulead Video Studio customers will be able to use HEURIS’ DVD ConnexIT in a variety of ways. They could shoot video with a DV camera, edit in Ulead Video Studio and then use DVD ConnexIT to convert to DVD-RAM format for storage on the large rewritable DVD-RAM discs. These discs may be used singly or as part of a jukebox or mass storage system. Ulead Video Studio customers may also record their video material directly in VR (or DVD-RAM) format using Hitachi or Panasonic’s DVD-RAM cameras. They could then use DVD ConnexIT to easily edit the video in its native format as well as add titling and special effects within Ulead Video Studio. When finished editing, the user could write the video directly to a rewritable DVD device such as a DVD-RAM, a traditional DVD or even to videotape.
