HEURIS Releases MPEG Power
Professional-DVD
HEURIS MPEG Power
Professional-DVD offers Variable Bit Rate
encoding and transport layer multiplexing for DVD applications
NAB, Las Vegas, Nevada, April 5, 1998
HEURIS, a leading provider of MPEG encoding solutions for professional digital
video applications, today announced its release of MPEG Power Professional-DVD, a high-end
MPEG-2 encoder specifically designed for DVD applications. This product features variable
bitrate encoding and transport layer multiplexing, two very important capabilities for
creating MPEG streams suitable for DVD. In addition, MPEG Power Professional-DVD is
designed to work with several third party AC-3 audio solutions.
MPEG Power Professional-DVD offers significant advantages for
DVD developers. "Variable bitrate encoding allows the user to have even greater
control over the encoding process," says Brian Roy, Director of Software Development
at HEURIS. "Now more bits can be allocated to areas of greater complexity, which
ultimately results in even better image quality."
"This is a very important step forward for HEURIS,"
says Brian Quandt, President of HEURIS. "HEURIS made a serious commitment to
developing sophisticated tools for DVD encoding. There are a lot of companies talking
about tools for DVD. HEURIS isnt just talking about these tools, were shipping
them."
HEURIS has also made a commitment to work with several DVD
authoring packages. In particular, HEURIS has reached an agreement with Daikin, the
worlds leading supplier of authoring and premastering tools for DVD-Video and
DVD-ROM production. "These partnerships are essential to DVD creators," says
Quandt. "Developers need to know that all of their tools will work together. HEURIS
is determined to make the integration of these tools as painless as possible."
MPEG Power Professional-DVD offers MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 encoding
capabilities. MPEG Power Professional-DVD runs on the PowerPC ( running MacOS 7.5 or
later), an Intel Pentium or a Digital Alpha system (running Windows 95 or
NT). Accepted video inputs include OMFI (exported by Avid Media Composer,
MCX and others), Quicktime files and AVI files.
Pricing and Availability
MPEG Power Professional-DVD is available for $3,500 direct
from HEURIS, through dealers and distributors. The product is currently shipping.
Customers who have previously purchased MPEG Power Professional-2 may upgrade to
MPEG Power Professional-DVD for an additional $1,000.
