HEURIS Announces New Prices
and New MPEG Products
HEURIS adopts aggressive pricing and
product strategy
to capture the growing professional MPEG market
SIGGRAPH 98, Orlando, Florida, July 21, 1998
- HEURIS, makers of MPEG Power Professional, the most widely used professional MPEG
encoder, today announced an aggressive new pricing and product strategy. The price of each
of the products in the existing MPEG Power Professional line has been reduced by $1,000.
MPEG Power Professional, HEURIS MPEG-1 Constant Bit Rate encoding solution, will now
retail for $500; MPEG Power Professional-2, which provides MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 Constant Bit
Rate encoding, will now retail for $1,500; and MPEG Power Professional-DVD, which delivers
MPEG-2 Variable Bit Rate encoding, will now retail for $2,500.
"MPEG is no longer used by just a few bleeding-edge
video houses," said Brian Quandt, CEO of HEURIS. "MPEG encoding is now a
necessity for most video professionals. Our new pricing reflects these changes in the
professional market, our commitment to being the MPEG encoder of choice for digital
content creation professionals, and our commitment to ensuring that MPEG Power
Professional remains a tremendous value for our customers."
The response from HEURIS dealer channel has been
extremely positive. "HEURIS takes very good care of its dealers," says Ed Wood
of The Media Cottage. "HEURIS was careful to consult with us before changing the
pricing structure and were thrilled with the new prices. Weve watched the MPEG
encoding market grow from a few, high-tech companies to encompass most of the professional
video and multimedia market. These prices will ensure that the wider professional market
will have access to this excellent tool."
HEURIS also announced its MPEG Export Engine, a
low-cost, no-frills way to convert QuickTime files into MPEG-1 files. The HEURIS
MPEG Export Engine is expected to be available for download from the HEURIS web site for
$99 US after August 21, 1998.
"More and more video professionals and multimedia
developers are looking for an inexpensive way to spec projects," said
Chris OLeary, HEURIS Vice President of Marketing. "The MPEG Export Engine
will allow professionals to demonstrate the technology to potential clients and then
upgrade to our professional encoders when they are awarded the project."
HEURIS is making its MPEG Export Engine available for OEM
bundling. Interested parties should contact Brian Quandt at 800.923.9232 or email him at quandt@heuris.com.
Finally, HEURIS announced the addition of MPEG Power
ProfessionalTransport to the top of its product line. MPEG Power
ProfessionalTransport is designed to generate the Transport Streams that are
required when transmitting MPEG over error-prone communication channels. These include
standard broadcast and satellite links. MPEG Power ProfessionalTransport will retail
for $5,000 and will be available by the end of August.
"MPEG Power ProfessionalTransport is the solution
of choice for professionals who demand professional features, the highest-quality MPEG
streams, and a way to protect their investment," said Brian Roy, HEURIS Vice
President of Engineering. "MPEG Power ProfessionalTransports being
software-based means that we can quickly and easily react to the changes that are
occurring in the marketplace. In these times of rolling standards and general uncertainty
it doesnt makes sense for our customers to invest huge amounts of money in a
hardware-based encoder that may be obsolete in a month and that may not deliver the best
possible image quality."
