HEURIS ANNOUNCES
NONLINEAR EDITING AND VIDEO SERVER PARTNERS FOR ITS
MPEG POWER PROFESSIONAL
Las Vegas, NV, April 15, 1996 --
HEURIS, a leading MPEG encoding service and transcoding software solutions provider, today
announced key strategic alliances with major nonlinear editing tools and video server
vendors including Data Translation. HEURIS will unveil its MPEG Power Professional(tm)
software at the National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB) here in Las Vegas from
April 15-18 in booth #M3822 at the Sands Convention Center. HEURIS's MPEG Power
Professional( encoding software - a suite of tools that provide all of the powerful
functions of a professional high end video compression service bureau right on the desktop
- now integrates with the post production process. MPEG Power Professional(tm) elegantly
automates and templates many of the ambiguous tasks associated with encoding, including
preprocessing and filtering - solving the difficult and often impossible task of file
format conversion from Motion JPEG to MPEG syntax data streams - without having to output
to videotape first!
For the first time, content developers and producers can take
native files from leading editing systems and output to MPEG for remote collaboration over
the Internet or other telephone transport on the pre-visualization side - to CD-ROM, DVD
and video servers on the distribution side. As the trend for "alternative client
deliverables" beyond videotape becomes more mainstream, conversion to MPEG for
transport will be a critical success factor in the post production and authoring
processes.
HEURIS's MPEG Power Professional(tm) software allows MPEG
video and audio streams to be customized to meet a specific application's requirements.
Encoding parameters such as data rate, adjustments based on scene content, and storage and
networking constraints can be dynamically managed within MPEG Power Professional(tm). The
encoding "human-assisted" process is finally available for the desktop in an
easy-to-use, step-by-step software application.
MPEG Power Professional(tm) takes the guesswork out of the
encoding process - giving the producer, editor, presenter and other creatives broadcast
quality compressed video for applications requiring the highest possible image quality.
For those who wish to remotely collaborate over the Internet or within a corporate
network, MPEG Power Professional(tm) can provide quarter screen encoding for lower data
rate transmission. MPEG Power Professional(tm) tailors the source video and audio to match
hard drive or other storage space, bandwidth limits and image quality requirements.
MPEG Power Professional works seamlessly with AVID's Media
Composer(r) family of products and Data Translation's Media 100(r). "MPEG Power
Professional(tm) will be very attractive to thousands of users of our Media 100(r) digital
video system," said John Molinari, general manager of the Multimedia Group of Data
Translation. "By keeping everything digital, HEURIS's software has radically
simplified the process of providing high-quality MPEG programs for multimedia title
creation, remote editing collaboration and Internet delivery."
Brian Quandt, HEURIS President explained, "We offer MPEG
encoding templates for various CD-ROM speeds as well as the Internet that provide
correctly configured data streams for each. Because compression represents one of the most
critical steps in the post production process, MPEG Power Professional(tm) offers the same
customization options available to MPEG encoding experts by building user-designed
templates. Parameters such as vertical picture size, horizontal picture size, bit rate,
GOP (group of pictures), filtering techniques, search range and much more can be set by
the end user and stored as a template for future projects."
Price and Availability
HEURIS's MPEG Power Professional(tm) is available at a list
price of $2499 and is available through dealer/distributors, as well as through OEM
vendors.
About HEURIS
HEURIS was formed to offer the first software-based MPEG
encoding service for the interactive digital video marketplace and has been providing
Fortune 100 companies with high quality, MPEG compliant video files for use in training
materials, point-of-purchase kiosks, CD-ROM sales presentations and networked applications
since 1991. President and Founder Brian Quandt has been a contributing member of many ISO
groups responsible for the MPEG 1 and 2 specifications including writing significant
portions of the standard regarding software implementation of system encoding.
HEURIS is headquartered in St. Louis, MO.
