Goal

To convert a large number of clips from an Avid MCXpress™ to many different types of MPEG for use on the AVIA disc.

Problem

The developers at AlphaDVD had over 150 digital files that must be converted to MPEG. With most MPEG encoders, they would have to dump all of these digital files out of the Avid system to tape, and then redigitize them before encoding. Redigitizing is not only time-consuming, but also leads to significant quality loss.

Solution

MPEG Power Professional—DVD is used to create many different types of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files. Since MPEG Power Professional reads Avid OMFI files directly, the developers were able to convert the files to MPEG without ever going to tape, saving both time and quality.
