Goal

Convert high-resolution animation files to MPEG for use in a DVD-based interactive kiosk for the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. The kiosk introduces one of the Gardner’s greatest paintings--Titian’s Europa—museum-goers using a large touch screen.

Problem

The footage for this kiosk contained significant amounts of digital animation files. Most animation files contain a great deal of fine detail, and are very difficult to encode. In addition, most MPEG encoding solutions require that animation files be transferred to videotape and then digitized again before MPEG encoding. This second digitization process causes an additional irretrievable loss in visual quality.

Solution

MPEG Power Professional-2 was used to convert digital animation files directly to the MPEG-2 format.
