![]() MPEG Power Professionalä used to create a cutting-edge, highly interactive DVD title: Mars, the Red Planet Goal: MPEG Power Professionalä is used to convert video and animated still images, which had been captured and edited using Adobe and Avid products, to MPEG for use on the Mars, the Red Planet DVD. This highly interactive title is one of the first to implement WebDVD and will be sold in retail outlets for playback on either consumer DVD players or computers with DVD-ROM. Problem: The developers at Alpha DVD had animated over 70% of the video on the disc from still images of Mars using Adobe After Effect. Most MPEG encoders would require them to dump all of these digital files to tape, and then redigitize them before encoding. Redigitizing is not only time consuming, but also may lead to significant quality loss. Solution: MPEG Power Professionalä -DVD is used to create the MPEG files. Since MPEG Power Professionalä reads Avid OMFI and AVI files directly, the developers were able to convert the files to MPEG without ever going to tape, saving both time and quality. Benefits:
"I had over 60 GB of still images of Mars that were captured by NASA over the past 30 years. The quality of these images presented some limitations on my animated source video. Using MPEG Power Professionalä allowed me to encode my video into the best quality MPEG possible, as I could control the bitrates and didnt have to lay off to tape." Ralph LaBarge, Alpha DVD |
