| High-end kiosks developed using MPEG Power Professional-2. Line of Business
Multimedia Development Company
Goal
The Media Cottage was contracted by a large computer manufacturer in
Houston to build a series of kiosks for their new visitors center. The kiosks must
be interactive, but must also contain great looking video.
Problem
The client originally thought they had to use laserdisk. They said
they had never seen "compressed video that meets our quality requirements".
However, the client was selling computer systems, and ultimately felt it would be better
to use their own systems for the demo in their visitors center.
Solution
MPEG Power Professional-2 running on a Dual Pentium II 300 MHz
Machine with 256 MB of RAM was used to create several MPEG-2 streams encoded at 5-7 Mb/s.
The client was thrilled with the results. Ultimately eight kiosks were developed using
MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 streams.
Benefits
- Video analysis features allow higher quality at lower bitrates.
- Sophisticated interface allows for fine control of encoding
parameters.
Quotes
"This client was really worried about compressing their
video. But compressed video was really the only way to get the applications to run on
their own computer systems. We used MPEG Power Professional-2 to create some MPEG-2
streams for them. We were really excited about the results, and so was the client. MPEG
Power Professional works so well, we even convinced them to use MPEG-1 in some of the
kiosks."
