Project Description "In Plain Sight" is the first feature length High Definition film to be produced at the University of Miami. The project came about when Emmy Award winning cinematographer Joseph Mecarriello agreed to lend his talent and his Panasonic Varicam to the project. "In Plain Sight" is a story about an underground "hit man," Daulton Monroe, who gets students kicked out of school for a price. Things get complicated when his new girlfriend starts asking to many questions and his shadowy operation is put on the line. First time director, Brian Cavallaro, utilized the inexpensive tape stock and the flexible nature of shooting with a high definition camera, which allowed the for more takes and the project to be completed within a thirteen day shooting schedule. "In Plain Sight" was shot on the Panasonic Varicam at 720p
24fps. The footage was then downconverted to DVCam and edited on Avid
Xpress Pro at 23.976fps. For the online version, the EDL was imported to
Final Cut Pro HD and upresed to 24/1080p. The master for the film was sent
to a D5, but a submaster was needed for displaying the film in High
Definition without access to expensive studio equipment. The solution
found was to encode the entire project to a High Resolution MPEG transport
stream using Heuris' MPEG Power Professional DTV HD and then send that
signal to a DVHS deck. |
