JVC, Affordable HD is
Here. JVC wanted to prove that their tag line for NAB 2004 was
indeed true. Affordable HD is
definitely here. And to prove
that statement, JVC used footage from several industry professionals
already using JVC products and HDV in their day to day business, combined
it with graphics specifically designed to be used with HDV and presented
it at their NAB booth using HDV as their playback source.
Fred Blurton
Productions in conjunction with Joe Langenfelds PunkVision created a 13 minute program to tell
the story of JVCs HDV. This
720 60p program included user testimonials, product shots and animated
graphics all timed to a high energy audio track.
Production and post production tasks were completed using the HDV
format with tools and resources that would normally be reserved for
Standard Definition Video. Plus,
the actual cost of production was more inline with what would normally be
considered a DV budget proving that HD is indeed Affordable. The production path began with testimonials shot on
JVCs JY-HD10U HDV
Camcorder. The supplied tapes
were imported into Final Cut Pro using the JY-HD10U via fire wire and the
HEURIS XtractorHDV import
tool. The graphics were
created in After Effects and imported as full resolution 720 60p QuickTime
movies. All edit, timing,
compositing and audio were completed in Final Cut Pro on a Mac G5 at 720
60p. The final program was
encoded back to HDV using the HEURIS MPEG Power Professional
DTVHD encoding
software. The resulting HD
MPEG 2 file was then displayed on a 50 Plasma Monitor using a standard
computer connected via an IEEE-1394
connection through a JVC DVHS video deck.
The HEURIS XtoHD player utility made it
possible to play the HD MPEG2 file in full resolution directly from a
standard computer hard drive. Fred Blurton and Joe Langenfeld say We
were amazed when we reviewed the program.
We were able to play High Definition video from the hard drive of a
lap top through a DVHS machine with full resolution and full frame rate. No skipped frames. Very
Cool!!!
