Panasonic Broadcast and Apple computer introduced support for the DVC100 HD format within Final Cut Pro. Just as exciting Panasonic also introduced a product called the "IP Plasma." Now it is very easy to acquire HD, edit HD and deliver HD. The IP Plasma is a simple module that plugs directly into the back of their Plasma's turning it into a self contained kiosk perfect for digital signage applications. The IP Plasma lets you simply FTP files from your editing system to the built-in harddrive, or lets you schedule files for playback using a controlling menu. There are no video cables going the IP Plasma, the only cables that connect to the IP Plasma are the power cable and a 10/100 cable for control and uploading of files for later playback. HEURIS' product MPEG Power Professional-DTVHD enabled the conversion from the DVC100 HD format to the MPEG2 format used within the new kiosk. HD video was acquired via 1394 to Final Cut Pro for editing, and then exported using the HEURIS tools to a MPEG2 compliant transport stream. The conversion started in HD, but was downsampled to SD, while still maintaining the 16x9 aspect ratio. The output from this workflow was a MPEG2 SD transport stream with anamorphic compression and the 16x9 aspect mode enabled.
