Project Description

Team Adrenaline has just completed an HD film for the Toronto Olympic Spirit which is a year round interactive Olympics Entertainment  facility in the heart of downtown Toronto and is sanctioned by the IOC who have plans to open similar facilities around the world.

The film titled "The Calling" is twelve minutes long and is mainly comprised of archival Olympic footage shot on 35mm, 16mm, NTSC, PAL and 1080i HD from NHK, Japan. More than 50 hours of film was transferred to 23.98 Psf HD and the original aspect ratios were maintained.

Everything was then digitized into Final Cut Pro in the various frame rates, sizes and aspect ratios. Using the Algolith plugins in Shake everything was converted to HD 23.98 Psf and composited and then onlined and color corrected in Final Cut Pro. The 50 sec. opening also done in Shake consists of various Olympic athletes rotoscoped and composited with animation.  Post-production was done at Beevision Productions, Toronto, Canada.

Directed by Paul Hart and edited by George Saturnino the large format film has over a thousand edits and with no narration is an emotional roller coaster cut to an original score by Jack Lenz who recently scored "The Passion" for Mel Gibson. Engineered by award winning Kevin Doyle, tracks of world beat musicians were recorded in Toronto and the orchestral score was recorded in Bratislava, Slovakia with a seventy piece orchestra. By doubling the strings many of our cues had as many as two hundred tracks all recorded into a Pro-Tools session on a G5.

The final film was delivered in 10.1 surround and under the supervision of Steve Barden from "Sounddogs" and Imax mixer Peter Harper (Stones At The Max) over 2500 sound effects were added and an in-theatre mix was performed on two G5 Pro-Tool rigs running in tandem and outputting 11 discreet channels including overhead speakers.

The film has a unique aspect ratio and is showing on a screen 32'x10' and is playing back on an HD server. The final MPEG file was rendered on the same dual 2.0 G5 it was edited on, using Heuris MPEG Power Professional -- D-Cinema software and has a bitrate of over 70 MBPS. Brian Quandt from Heuris was our digital film consultant.

"The Calling" was produced by Nina Beveridge and Executive Produced by Glen Miller and Gordon James of Team Adrenaline.
