DVD-RAM CONVERGENCE CAPABILITIES EXTEND FOR MAC OSX

WITH PANASONIC RECORDABLE DVD PRODUCTS AND HEURIS SOFTWARE

New ConnexIT Tools Make Apple and A/V Interoperability a Snap

Secaucus, N.J. and St. Louis, MO. (August 20, 2003) – Adding to the mainstream adoption of recordable DVD, Panasonic Industrial Company today announced that HEURIS has introduced DVD ConnexIT™ for Apple OSX and QuickTime – the first QuickTime plug-in specifically developed for A/V and PC convergence between Panasonic DVD-RAM products. Now making movies on DVD is possible without any cables or wiring, and Apple users can simply play or even edit their recorded movies in one easy step.

The new tools for Apple allow OSX users - with a compatible Panasonic OEM SW-9571-CYY DVD MULTI Drive attached to their Apple - to seamlessly convert and read material recorded on their DVD recorder – such as the Panasonic DMR-HS2. In addition, this material can be easily played from within QuickTime Movie Player or edited with popular QuickTime- based editing tools such as Final Cut Pro.

"The new DVD recorders have become incredibly popular," said Brian Quandt, President of HEURIS. "Now with HEURIS’ DVD ConnexIT for QuickTime and OSX, users can view content on their Apple systems that they’ve recorded off air. All they have to do is pop the disc out of their Panasonic DVD recorder and into the SW-9571-CYY OEM DVD MULTI Drive attached to their Apple system and begin editing."

This simple one-step process is made possible through the introduction of Software Architects’s ReadDVD!™ v2.0 UDF file system reader for Mac OS X. The utility mounts and reads UDF formatted discs, including VR formatted media on any Apple Mac system. The software simply represents the recordable disc as a drive icon on the Apple "desktop." ReadDVD! is compliant with all DVD Forum and OSTA (Optical Storage Technology Association) recording specifications.

This newfound Apple compatibility is part of a recordable DVD trend that has been taking both the PC and A/V markets by storm. In 2003, anticipated unit sales are expected to top 12.4 million, a 140-percentage growth since 2002. With so many units in each household and business, the interoperability and compatibility from product to product is essential.

"This is another key step to true digital convergence and the recordable DVD market going mainstream," said Tony Jasionowski, Group Manager at Panasonic Technologies Company. "By allowing Apple users to have this instant access to their recorded video – whether from a DVD recorder or camcorder – HEURIS’ new tools enable the large community of Apple devotees to fully enjoy the robust features of DVD-RAM technology."

Key features of HEURIS’ powerful software for the Panasonic OEM DVD MULTI Drive include: direct read capability for RTRW file format, allowing for instant access to video data on DVD-VR discs; support for programs and playlists within DVD-VR, editing features such as add transitions and special effects to video in popular nonlinear editing systems such as Apple Final Cut Pro, QuickTime Player 6 and other QuickTime editing systems; export capability to any digital format available in compatible NLE systems and support for all Panasonic DVD recorders, Panasonic DVD cameras and Hitachi DVD cameras.
